Kyste mucoïde de doigt

Mucoid cysts of the fingers

If you have :

- a small lump surrounding the end joint (near the nail)

- a thin skin that can leak (jelly-like fluid)

- a nail deformity

you may have a mucous cyst of the finger.

These cysts usually arise from the arthritic distal interphalangeal joint. The overlying skin may become thin and the cyst fluid can leak through the skin (high risk of infection). If the cyst pressures the nail matrix, a deformity can appear.

Small cysts without complications do not need treatment. But when the skin gets opened, a surgical excision can be recommended. It the joint is also painful, a fusion is performed.

The main risk is the recurrence.
